Evidence Ledger working sheet

Create a claim-linked evidentiary record. A source belongs here because of what it establishes, not merely because it appears in a bibliography.

Claim / claim ID State the specific descriptive, distributional, causal, predictive, normative-relevant, or authority claim being examined. Source / source ID Identify the source precisely enough to recover it. Keep stable identifiers, author or issuer, date, and version where available. What this source contributes Explain the actual claim–evidence relationship. Do not write only “supports.” Evidence state and strength Record whether the evidence is established, provisional, disputed, corrected, retracted, or otherwise qualified—and why. Lineage / independence Identify shared datasets, repeated reporting, copied estimates, common models, or other dependencies that make nominally separate sources correlated. Conflict / disagreement Record credible contrary evidence or rival interpretation instead of averaging it away. Applicability / external validity What population, jurisdiction, period, institution, or conditions does this evidence actually cover? Uncertainty / research gap What remains unknown, weakly measured, or capable of changing the inference? AI-assisted handling / provenance Disclose material AI use in search, extraction, translation, coding, synthesis, or analysis and identify the human validation step. Correction / update dependency Record any later correction, superseding source, changed dataset, or reason this entry must be revisited.
